Full Refund for ExtraMooga Ticket Holders

photo by craig cavalloSome of the most significant complaints from the Great Googa Mooga festival held over the weekend in Prospect Park were those from the ExtraMooga ticket holders. The $250 ticket price offered separate entrances to the event, backstage mingling with musicians and food celebs, and all inclusive food, wine, beer, and cocktails. Unfortunately, many complained that the food offerings and value of the ticket came nowhere near the price of the ticket.

In response to the outcry of angry ExtraMoogaers, Superfly, the organizers of the event (also of Tennessee's Bonnaroo), are providing a refund to all ExtraMooga ticket holders. 

"We are offering a 100% refund to anyone who attended ExtraMooga: the full ticket price, credit card fees—everything, our intentions were to do something great. We were definitely ambitious. But we also wanted to do something top notch. We did not deliver on the promise we made for the ExtraMooga, and that’s why we’re going to make it right.”

Great Googally Moogally

The Great Googa Mooga took place in Prospect Park over the weekend and the event drew over 30,000 people. If you got there early enough (before noon) you had about 25 minutes to hit as many of the 75 stands as possible before the lines grew to 60 deep and stayed that way for the rest of the day.

A "Googa Moula" tent was set up to provide a cashless card system, where a value was placed on a card that you could then use at the wine and/or beer pavillions. Sounds like a great idea, but the system malfunctioned before noon (people were let in at 11:30am), so people were issued red tickets at a $1/ticket rate that you could then exchange for booze.

Most food vendors ran out of food around 4pm. Do or Dine sold through 800 of their foie gras donuts in just over 3 hours. As stands slowly began to run out of product, lines at neighboring vendors began to swell and waits grew to upwards of an hour.

Eater has an interview with co-founder Rick Farman that sheds some light on the incredible fest as the founders plan to smooth things out and make a return next year.  "Hopefully we'll be able to make it up to the people that had a bad experience. We look forward to making it a better event, and we are the kind of organization that's good at adapting."

When asked if they will be doing the event again Farman said, "We have every intention of doing it next year."

Great Googa Music

So it's all in.  The wine, the food, the fame, and now the music has been revealed that will soundtrack the two day food festival May 19th and 20th in Prospect Park.  The news comes to us after some anticipation, and with a few exceptions, i.e. The Roots, Charles Bradley, and Hall and Oats (!), hands are left palms down and wiggling back and forth.

Performances start at noon both days and end at 8:30 Saturday and 7:30 Sunday.  Two stages will host the bands and there are still artists to be announced.  Did someone say Paul Simon?

I Say Googa, You Say Mooga

The Great Googa Mooga is getting closer and there's been a few more restaurants added to the roster.  Craft, Num Pang, Pok Pok Wing, and Dinosaur BBQ, who has a location opening next year at 604 Union Street in Brooklyn, will be feeding the masses May 19th and 20th.  General Admission tickets sold out in just a few hours when they became open to the public a couple of weeks ago, but all inclusive Extra Mooga tickets are still available for $249. 

The Wine Experience was also announced last week and includes a 120 foot tent and over 100 wines.  Paul Grieco, of Hearth and Terroir, will be on hand with other NYC sommeliers as part of an "Ask the Sommelier" station.

Where Were You When The Great Googa Mooga Happened?

Tickets are officially available for The Great Googa Mooga.  The event is happening May 19th and 20th in Prospect Park and general admission is free.  The $250 Extra Mooga ticket gets you all-inclusive food, wine and beer, access to Main Stage viewing, a one-year subscription to New York Mag, and an "Extra Mooga sack filled with goodies."

It was announced last week that Prospect Park would be the site for a food festival in May.  It turns out The Great Googa Mooga is going to be pretty epic.  Brooklyn strongholds Frankies 457, Char No. 4, and Mile End will be there.  M. Wells, DBGB, Joseph Leonard, Minetta Tavern, and Spotted Pig are some others.

We're still waiting to hear which bands are going to be booked but check out the list of restaurants that are going to be there.

The two-day festival on May 19th and 20th is free, but you will have to register.  You can do so here starting next Thursday (the 15th) at noon.

With a Name Like Googamooga, It's Got to be Good

On May 19th and 20th, Prospect Park is going to host what's been dubbed The Great Googamooga.  Dozens of food vendors, brewers, wine makers, and bands will be present at the free weekend festival.
