Wing Week: Part III

Jamar White and Ronald Lee are the owners of Buffalo Boss on Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn. Their store is a quick-serve wing joint proudly serving organic, hormone free wings that have become "The official wings of the Brooklyn Nets." Jay-Z is Jamar White's cousin, and the H to the Izzo has a (fistful of dollars) hand in the operation. White explains, "Jay-Z's involvement in the business is excellent. I'm his first cousin and we grew up together. He's like my older brother and so he supports me in everything that I do. When I told him about the wing concept, the location we had, and the vision for it, he's a good business man, so he was like, 'Let's do it.'"

Review: Ganso

Fort Greene, Prospect Heights, Park Slope, Boerum Hill, and Downtown Brooklyn all converge at the newly opened Barclays Center in Brooklyn.  The borough has yet to see the full impact the new stadium will have, but many of the surrounding neighborhoods seem to be diving headfirst into New York’s recent ramen renaissance.  Park Slope got Naruto Ramen earlier this year.  In Prospect Heights, two Morimoto vets serve the dish at Chuko.  Smith Street, just out of the stadium’s reach in Carroll Gardens, recently welcomed Dassara Ramen.  While Boerum Hill and Fort Greene await their respective ramen spots, Downtown Brooklyn gets Japan’s iconic noodle dish at the hands of Harris Salat and Ryuji “Rio” Irie.

Dekalb Market Needs to Move

When the Dekalb Market opened last year it did so under the pretense that it would operate at its current location for at least five years.  That's not the case.  Real estate development plans moved faster than expected and construction at 138 Willoughby Street is likely to start as early as October.

The market plans to stay in the neighborhood and a post on their site has this to say:

"We can’t share any more juicy details just yet, but you can look forward to seeing our full lineup of events coming up and what you can look forward to in the fall.  We hope to receive full support from our community as we continue Dekalb Market in its new incarnation!"

A letter was sent out by the Dekalb Market Team, who sees the relocating as an opportunity, "By positioning ourselves as the first shopping center in history to move and reopen in the space of a few weeks we will be able to have a new “re-opening” with both the press and operations."

Dekalb Market Springs to Life this Weekend

Dekalb Market will kick off its second year this weekend.  April 7th is the opening date for the revamped market that will include roller derbies, lobster boils, and Sunday dance parties this year.  Sunday will feature easter eggs and $1 mimosa's.

The market also acquired a full liquor license back in February.  This makes for a pretty exciting season for outdoor shoppers, roller skaters, dancers, boozers, and eaters.

Brooklyn Fare Soon to be Manhattan Fare

Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare opened three years ago.  Since it's inception the restaurant has earned 3 Michelin stars and is the only one in Brooklyn to do so.  Cesar Ramirez's $225, 20-plus tasting menu is one of the most expensive and most difficult to land a seat at.

Moe Issa is the owner and he has decided it's the right move to open at a space in Hell's Kitchen, on 39th Street between 9th and 10th.  The chef's table at the Manhattan location will be downstairs in a wine room, with only 10 seats.  The restaurant itself will be 60 seats and have an a la carte menu.

Manhattan could see an interpretation of Chef Ramirez's food as early as June.

Brooklyn Beer Garden Via Dekalb Market

As spring gets closer, event producers Jennifer Louise Lyons and Joann Kim-Nunez are excited about what the beer garden will do for the Dekalb Market.
