Dinosaur Barbecue Opens Tonight at 5pm
We've been anticipating Dinosaur Barbecue opening since January last year and have kept a close eye ever since. We wait no longer. Tonight at 5pm Brooklyn's Dinosaur Barbecue opens to the public. The restaurant was in soft opening mode over the weekend with friends and family Thursday - Saturday and a VIP event last night. Stage's Upstate 'cue was served for each occasion and we had the good fortune of attending. Here's a look at the space and some of the 'cue.
A section of the main dining room.
A pocket of tables near the kitchen.
The chandelier in this room comes from a local Gowanus artist whose studio flooded during Hurricane Sandy. Bottles were salvaged from underpasses in New York for the piece. Seawater destroyed all that was there expect for the chandelier because it was hanging from the studio's ceiling. Dinosaur founder John Stage bought it to help get the artist back on his feet.
Guests at the VIP event line up for their first taste of Dinosaur's Brooklyn 'cue.
Full house.
Fancy friend green tomatoes (3 for $7.95, 5 for $9.95). Panko breaded green tomatoes with pimento cheese and chow chow - Dinosaur's pickled poblano, cabbage, and pepper relish.
Two meat combo with two sides ($16.95). Ribs, brisket, baked beans, and (our favorite barbecue joint) mac n' cheese.
Pulled pork chow-chow with one side ($10.50). There are four options for pulled pork sandwiches: Original, Memphis (with coleslaw), Cuban (with ham, Swiss, mustard, and pickles), and the Chow-Chow (with hoisin sesame bbq and chow chow).
Pulled pork Memphis with one side ($10.50).
One of the best sides at Dinosaur: cast-iron mac n' cheese.
Ribs cut to order during VIP night.
Have a look at the menu here. Starting tomorrow, Dinosaur will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. The kitchen is open until 10pm on Sundays, 11pm Monday through Thursday, and mindnight on weekends. The bar is open until 1am during the week and 2am on the weekends. Take-out starts Monday. Our 'cue coma starts now. We'll see you there.
